Mother's Surgery Day

Mother is out of surgery and in ICU. Dr. Crawford and Dr. Toole said that the surgery went well. They were able to successfully perform the valve replacement but were not able to do the bypass surgery due to scar tissue from her previous surgery. They will call her in at a later date and insert a stent to correct this problem. Mother is strong and determined so we feel that she will recover quickly because of her determination.

She is blessed to have Christian doctors and anestheologists who prayed with her and for her. We are also blessed that Dr. Fred Crawford was able to perform the surgery. He is very highly respected in his field.

Mother was experiencing some chest discomfort this morning and went to the doctor who sent her on to the hospital. She was admitted at MUSC this afternoon for further testing. Surgery may be sooner than expected to correct the valve problem. Please keep her and the doctors in your prayers.

The Beginning of the Journey

January 16, 2009
Mother went to Charleston for a second opinion following her recent cardiology visit. Constance accompanied Mother to the doctor where they performed an echo cardiogram to determine the percentage of aortic stenosis. The doctor called in Dr. Crawford to talk with mother about the results. As of today she will probably have a heart catheterization next week and if it proves to show what they feel is the diagnosis she will probably have surgery in February at MUSC in Charleston. I am thankful that she went for a second opinion and feel like she is in good hands.
